Friday In The Studio, Sketching Again

It’s been absolutely ages and ages since I did any sketching, that’s not including the little sketches and doodles in my travel journal. No, I mean actual sit down with a pencil and seriously draw type sketching.  I even  had to hunt around for my sketch book it’s been that long.

Anyway I’m so glad I did and I even decided to document my weekend with a sketch in my journal.

The colours of Autumn are so inspiring and I can’t get enough of them.

I hope you all have a great weekend. I might try and get out in the garden for a bit more cutting down before the winter.

Have a good one and see you next week.

Spring Flowers Challenge

We spent this weekend in the garden weeding, digging and getting rid of cubic metres of moss from everywhere. It was truly exhausting, but I’m satisfied we did a brilliant job and it’ll surely pay off when the summer comes.

It’s lovely too to be able to draw inspiration (literally) from the garden and for my Messy Monday journal entry this week I did just that. I went out and took a few pics of the Spring flowers, then sketched one or two in my sketch book. My favourite was the pot of primroses which I thought I’d transfer to my journal.

Going black and white

One of the nice things about crafting with a friend is being able to give each other ideas and challenges sometimes way out of your comfort zone. This week during a conversation with Clare she challenged us both to create a black and white background. As a lover of colour, colour and more colour this was already sounding scary but once I’d covered my page with black gesso (way too scary for words) then white, I thought, hey I can do this.

I decided on a sketch of a crow as I’m still wallowing in the Halloween vibe and some simple pen work with water colour to paint in my bird.

Messy Fun Friday and the evolution of an image

“Messy Fun Friday” is the phrase adopted by my good friend Clare Brown after we spent the morning creating a journal page together via What’s App. We had such a good time creating together and getting messy it was almost as good as having her with me in the studio. Almost. We had such a laugh it made me think about perhaps making a video of my process in future.

For now though I’ll re-wind a bit to a couple of days ago when I sketched out this page in my journal.
