Confidence Art Journal Page

At the end of last year I posted a photo of how my Moleskine journal looks now it’s at the end, since then it’s become even fatter and is bursting at the seams, so it’s definitely time for a new one. This time I’ve bought myself a Strathmore to see how that stands up to my beloved Moleskine.

While I was waiting for it to arrive I created a new page in my much smaller Dylusions journal and as usual it was while Facetiming with Clare who was also testing out a new journal, her first Moleskine.

I got out the Dylusions paints and as usual I reached for my favourite colours, turquoise and green so to try and push myself out of a colour rut I thought I’d go for something I don’t normally do and put on some pink. As you can see I wasn’t so confident and didn’t slap it on too much but I was happy to know I’d broken out of this colour funk.

I thought I’d put the word Confidence on the finished page as it was the word of the moment. Confidence to try something new, confidence to believe in yourself and how quickly it can be taken away too with just one word.

I think it’s important for me to remember that not everyone has the confidence to slosh paint around and mess make in a journal like I do and there are people who would very much like to get started in journaling but have no idea where to start. So in the shop I’ve put together a series of kits which include a hand made A5 journal, two Dylusions paints, a stencil and stencil sponges and a stamp. The journal is 8 pages of 300gsm mixed media paper so well able to stand up to paint and wet mediums and is bound with a vintage manila file folder as a cover. There are 4 kits Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, each one with different stencils and paint colours.

My motto for the year will be “Try something new this year” so I hope you will.

Porto and more

I missed blogging last week even though I did create a page in my journal. I think I just got a bit dazed at the weekend by the awful events which unfolded in Paris and it didn’t seem right to try and forget about it here so I just left my post for a week.

The week before that though M and I spent some time in Porto, enjoying some warm sunshine and a bit of relaxation before the madness of the season and I did spend some time sketching and took lots of photo’s to use later on in my work.

Birds Of A Feather

Right at this very moment I’m sitting on a balcony with a glass of wine watching the sun go down over Porto in northern Portugal. It is a small get away from it all to recharge the batteries before the madness of Christmas and a chance to grab some sunshine and top up the vitamins D.

Before I left though I didn’t forget about creating a weekly journal page and here it is.

more texture

Once again I got together with Clare for a bit of a journal session and we both worked on more ways to play with texture. Here I used some scrunched up tissue paper and texture paste and applied colour with Color Burst pigments.

I’ll be back next week but in the mean time have a good weekend from a sunny Porto.

Monday in the studio with my Moleskine journal

Don’t you just love it when you get to fill up a journal? This is my Moleskine which I’ve had for ages now. It’s an A4 size and I’ve been through phases where I’ve loved it one minute then gone off it the next. In the beginning A4 was an exciting size to work on but slowly as I started to make my own smaller sized journals from scratch I felt the bigger pages were just too intimidating. More recently however, I’ve gone back to A4 and love it.

This is how fat it’s become as I get near the end. My left hand pages are all curved and bent meaning I can only work on the right but I’ll add loose leaves to the left so no space will be wasted. A new one will have to be on my Christmas wish list.

It’s been a busy week with half term and Halloween coming up and stuff for the shop to finish  off. I did get to do a bit of journaling with Clare Brown though where we worked on using silhouettes on a page.

I love doing this, it’s my favourite way to work on a page and the ways you can use a silhouette are endless. I think in the future I may do a tutorial on it so you can see how I put the page together.
