World card day blog hop

Today is World Card Making Day and together with my team mates at WOW! Embossing Powder and organised by our team leader Jo, we’re hosting a fun and inspirational blog hop to celebrate.

Card making is more important than ever right now. Sending a few words just to show someone you’re thinking of them, especially if you can’t say it in person, the thought will always be appreciated.

I thought I’d use one of my favourite stamp sets from WOW! Flights of Fancy to create these three cards.

In this first card below, I’ve used Glassy Ocean from the Dockside Trio and Serene from the Riviera Trio both of which are gorgeous sets of powders.

On the card below I’ve used one of my favourite Trio’s, Forever 13 which features a beautiful glittery turquoise, a purple and delicate pink. I just love using these together.

And finally for my third card I used All That Jazz from the same Forever 13 trio but on its own this time. I’m just a sucker for a turquoise colour.

I do hope you’ve found some inspiration here and throughout our hop. Do continue on and visit us all. Comment along each of the Design Team member’s posts for a chance to win a $25 gift card to either our UK or USA stores. (One comment per blog please). You have until Wednesday, October 7th at 11:59PM British Summertime to leave your comments. Winners will be announced on Thursday, October 8th. So here’s the full line up below.

WOW! with seth apter and stencil girl blog hop

As a huge fan of all companies represented here, I’m beyond thrilled to be taking part in this awsome hop with my fellow WOW! family to showcase not only Seth Apter and WOW! Embossing Powders but Stencil Girl products too.

I was very fortunate to be given some fabulous Stencil Girl stencils by not only Seth Apter but Rae Missigman – another of my arting heroes. With so much to play with a simple card just didn’t seem to cut it, so I decided on a mini journal in which I could show off as much as possible!

Mini Album Unsettled

Where do I start…? Well, I suppose I was inspired by the words on one of the Seth Apter stencils, “Unsettled” – it summed me up perfectly at the time. Having lost my beloved job to Covid 19 I did loose my way a bit during the Summer and this mini journal reflects that journey (for want of a better word) from the uncertainty to positivity and hope for the future. I filled it with inspirational words of hope and self discovery as I took a look at myself and who I really was and who I wanted to be moving forward.

I created the book from a single piece of A5 paper, brayered with coloured paints. Taking a piece of cut and dry foam, I added embossing ink through the stencils and embossed in Primary Ebony for dramatic contrast. The focal images on each page were stencilled in the same way and embossed with the Cosmic Trio Powders by Seth and the Riviera Trio. I cut shapes from the stencilled images to create pattern and interest and edged everything with Scattered Straw Distress ink.

I enjoyed cutting shapes from the stencil embossed images

Creating shapes and patterns from die cuts adds another level of interest and the stencilled shapes with added texture from the powders make this little book a very tactile and abstract experience.

I have a bit of a ‘thing’ for repeating patterns. The text stencil when cut up into squares is quite funky I think!

We are collaborating for a two day blog hop so there is plenty of opportunity to discover something new. As well as inspiration we’re also giving away a $35 Gift Certificate to StencilGirl® Products, a $35 Gift Certificate to Seth Apter’s Shop AND a $25 Gift Certificate to WOW!

So here are the details;
You can enter to win by leaving a comment below. Then be sure to visit the other blogs in the hop and comment to be in with a chance of winning. The more blogs you comment on, the more chances you have to WIN!

Messy monday

Messy Monday was originally an excuse for my friend Clare from Paper Pen and Plan and I to push ourselves out of our comfort zones and create journal pages, usually with a heavy helping of paint and ink involved. Already a lover of messy journal pages, I encouraged Clare to embrace her messy side which resulted in some amazing backgrounds. We had lots of fun with it and I think we both miss those days.

Clare mentioned it again a few weeks ago among the members of the Paper Pen and Plan Facebook group so I thought I’d try and bring it back in some form or another. Now to be absolutely truthful here I did start this at the weekend. I left it open on my worktable and added a bit to it every time I went past, which was often!

I started with the first layer of charcoal scribbles then added some acrylic paints in smears before taking a watersoluable crayon and smearing some blue/grey here and there. That was yesterday, this morning after a walk in the forest it reminded me of the low Autumn sunlight through the trees and so that was where the theme came from. With a small collage and a title it was finished.

Happy Messy Monday

Micro Journaling and why it’s so satisfying

Last week I showed you my little micro sized gel print journal and thought it would be cute in the leather cover I’ve had for a while now.

Already bursting at the seams and even with half the contents emptied out, it was still far too small for my little journal. So the only thing to do was to make a brand new one.

The extra pink bit came about simply because the piece of leather I wanted to use was too short to wrap around the front when all of my journals were inside. I added the fancy edge to it to stop it looking a bit like an after thought!

This little journal which is no bigger than a fat cheese sandwich (or doorstop), with its pre-printed backgrounds, is the perfect place for a quick art fix or to try out a new purchase. Its size makes it far less intimidating to work with as the pages are the same size as an ATC. More to the point the whole journal and cover is just too darn cute on my shelf and takes a great photo.

Creating a journal from pre-printed pages or mop up papers gives me an instant place to start from. This page just grew as I was trying out these Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks from Paper Pen and Plan.

This little page was completed in a few short minutes as the background was already there.

This little journal will grow and grow I think and before long I’ll need to make a few new inserts.

Have a good weekend
